There are reasons to oppose sewer

June 24, 2016

I am a resident of Winding Creek Village and have been requested to submit a letter to you expressing our thoughts and feeling as they concern the sewer project proposed for our district. I am happy to respond, and although what I am about to say are expressly my feelings, I feel that I share them with my neighbors here in Winding Creek as well as the residents of Big Oak Landing and Shawn's Hideaway. We have no problem with Herring Creek and Brandywood getting their sewer on their separate line, and I understand they are happy with that.

The problem is that the residents along Banks Road will be, according to the county, served by a separate sewer line to accommodate several residents along Route 24, Big Oak Landing, Shawn's Hideaway, the Tunnell Properties, a large residential development behind Tunnell on Herring Creek and Winding Creek. And this is where the problem lies.

Big Oak, Shawn's and Winding Creek consist of approximately 450 homes and we are going to pay the bill. On the other side, Tunnell and the residents behind him on Herring Creek, which I think consists of approximately 600 homes, will pay nothing save for hookup fees after this separate line is put in. I just don't feel that is right and fair.

In closing, I don't think that anyone here is against the new sewer, it's just that we want the costs paid evenly by everyone who will benefit.
