There but for grace of God go any of us

September 7, 2017

As the Harvey and flooding reports tell us: the Mexican government is sending help and Secretary of State Tillerson has thanked them. Some Muslim mosques in the Houston area are taking in their neighbors now with all 18 planning to do so as they become accessible again as the Imam assures us that this is the thing "we Americans" do. A Texas judge has decided it is unconstitutional for undocumented immigrants to be arrested if they need to seek refuge. This is the America that I love.

Thankfully, in 2008, our Congress saw fit to enact a law specifying job experience for the head of FEMA. (No more "heck of a job, Brownie.") So President Trump was required to appoint a qualified administrator, Brock Long. I just wish he had more help.

Now, our nation must rethink the rising global warming that nearly all the scientists in the world and in our government, including the Dept. of Defense, have been predicting as the atmosphere holds higher amounts of moisture and the oceans warm. It is essential that there be renewed government efforts to support the Paris Accords and move our government scientists back into their former positions where they can do the jobs they've been trained to do. President Trump needs to appoint qualified people to the now-empty positions in the several departments needed to address the recovery and the recoveries yet to come.

There but for the grace of God go any of us.
