Thomas Edward Boyle Jr., dedicated to family, church

Thomas Edward Boyle Jr. of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, fittingly the Catholic Church's Feast of the Holy Family. Tom was 93, born the son of Thomas and Sara (O'Brien) Boyle in Wilmington, the fourth of six children.

He attended Salesianum School and Villanova University, graduating with a degree in civil engineering in 1948, after serving two years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1948 he joined the DuPont Company, living and working across the Southeast and Midwest. Tom met Elaine Loughran in the summer of 1962 in Rehoboth Beach, and they were married in August 1963, raising three children together during their 54 years of marriage. He retired from DuPont in 1986 after 38 years.

Tom was a dedicated family man, devoting his life to his wife, children and his Catholic faith. He was an active member of St. Joseph on the Brandywine in Greenville, and St Edmond in Rehoboth Beach. Tom shared his love of tennis and golf with his family. Tom was his children's number one fan, whether watching soccer, umpiring baseball, cheering at basketball games or suffering through water polo matches and swim meets.

Tom is survived by his wife Elaine; his sons Tom (Colleen) and David (Amy); daughter Ann Nagel (John); grandchildren: Brendan, Andrew, Aidan, Declan, Patrick, Matthew, William, Quintan, Sarah and Emma; his brother Charles (Theresa); and sister Angela. Tom was preceded in death by his sisters Mary (Mansure), Victorine (Buckley) and Jean.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 5, at St. Joseph on the Brandywine, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Salesianum School, 1801 N Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19802.
