Tickets now on sale for Governor’s Prayer Breakfast May 4

April 5, 2017

All are invited to join Gov. John Carney's first Governor's Prayer Breakfast, beginning at 7 a.m., Thursday, May 4, at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover. The theme is Working Together. Praying Together.

As part of the National Day of Prayer activities May 4, Carney will join Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long, elected officials, religious leaders and members of the community. This will be the 57th Annual Delaware Governor's Prayer Breakfast, a tradition initiated by then-Gov. J. Caleb Boggs as he ended his second term and embraced by succeeding chief executives.

Hundreds of attendees are expected to gather for the annual event to pray for the nation, state and local communities. The prayer breakfast provides Delawareans a time to reflect on how to personally serve the state in the upcoming year. Attendees gather and share a renewed commitment to their individual faith and come together to make Delaware a better place. This year's theme concurs with the governor's focus on collaboration since taking office in January 2017.

Keynote speaker is Dr. Carol Quillen, 18th president of Davidson College near Charlotte, N.C. A New Castle native, Quillen is a graduate of the University of Chicago, and she earned her doctorate at Princeton University.

Founded in 1837, Davidson College honors its Presbyterian heritage by building a genuinely pluralistic community whose allegiance extends to the whole of humanity and where people of all faiths and ethnicities can live and learn together. Davison is leading higher education in reimagining the liberal arts experience to offer students from a wide range of backgrounds unsurpassed preparation for meaningful lives of leadership, service and impact in the 21st century.

Since arriving at Davidson in 2011, Quillen has initiated a Transition to Impact initiative, which challenges students and faculty to cultivate partnerships that help identify students from all backgrounds whose talents enrich the community and whose leadership as graduates will transform the world.

Students from St. Mark's High School, Carney's alma mater, will provide musical entertainment.

Tickets are on sale now. Individual tickets are $20. A table of 10 may be reserved  for $200. Sponsorship, which includes two tickets and recognition in the program, is available for $90. Doors open at 6:30 a.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to www.degpb17.eventbrite.com.
