Tom Wilson pastels to be auctioned April 28

April 26, 2018

With an upcoming documentary renewing interest in artist Tom Wilson, a Saturday, April 28 auction will allow buyers the chance to own one of his works before values skyrocket, according to Stuart Kingston Gallery President Mauria Stein.

An unprecedented collection of six quintessential Tom Wilson pastels will be auctioned. Bidding for the large “Flowers in the Rain” and the pastoral scene “Pig in a Poke” will begin at $1,000, and smaller pastels, “Iris,” “Roses,” “Flowers” and “Garden Flowers” will begin at $750.

Lewes artist Tom Wilson died in 1995. Indiana Avenue Filmmakers Collective traveled to Sussex County in March to interview the artist’s friends and local art collectors for a documentary on Wilson. Filmmakers expect to submit the picture to the festival circuit, including the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival, as well as online streaming services to gain financing for a feature-length movie. Plans for a coffee-table book of his art are also in the works.

Stuart Kingston Gallery is located at 1 Grenoble Place, the first floor of the Henlopen Hotel in Rehoboth. Doors open at 9 a.m. and the auction begins at 10 a.m.
