Tribute to playwright August Wilson set at Sussex Central Feb. 28

February 22, 2017

In celebration of Black History Month, the Take Two Drama Club at Sussex Central High School will present "A Tribute to August Wilson" from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the school’s Centre for Visual and Performing Arts. The program is free of charge. It will include scene and monologue work from lessons about Wilson that have been taught to Sussex Central students.

Wilson was the preeminent African-American playwright of the 20th century. His Century Cycle put him in the first rank of playwrights worldwide, as it presents one play - focusing on African-American life in Pittsburgh - for every decade of the 20th century. This ambitious body of work is the basis of the tribute.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The event is free of charge, but donations to Take Two will be gratefully accepted. Concessions will be available at a separate charge. Sussex Central High School is at 26026 Patriots Way, Georgetown.
