True Blue Jazz Series showcases young musicians, big band shows

True Blue presented a $500 check to the Sussex Tech Band Oct. 12 during Young Jazz Appreciation Night. The money is half of $1,000 donated by the Sussex County Council to True Blue Jazz, a nonprofit. The Fourth Annual True Blue Jazz Series highlighted regional and local acts at various venues, and featured the Cape Henlopen High School Big Band with Band Director Chris Burkhart at its opening Oct. 12 at Bethany Blues at a Young Jazz Appreciation Night with Eddie Sherman and Peggy Raley. The series also featured Chavis • Knoettner • Swanson • Thomas, Geoff Gallante, The Rev. Norm Freeman, a youth jazz show on Rehoboth Beach Bandstand, The Jimmy Heath Big Band, and a Jazz Brunch with Montreux Jazz Fest vocal winners Chiara Izzi and Vuyo Sotashe.
