Two defensive TDs lead Cape over IR 40-21

September 28, 2016

The Cape football team has more bigger and faster football players than struggling Indian River (0-3), and after getting down 8-0 on the Indians’ opening drive Sept. 23, the Vikings “Wrighted” the ship by getting their fullback game going. Kolbi Wright had a pair of touchdowns, while Rasheed Woods also moved from halfback to fullback to get some inside yardage in a 40-21 Cape victory. Woods scored on a third-quarter drive.

The Vikings also scored on a blocked punt by Parker Savage in the first half that was picked up and returned for a touchdown by Zach Dale.

In the third period, Jerry Harden sacked the quarterback, causing a fumble that was picked up by an alert Aarin Burton and run into the end zone for a touchdown.

“They opened the game and drove right down the field and scored,” said coach Bill Collick. “I thought ‘Oh no, here we go!’ We have been in some battles with Indian River over the years.”

Cape’s running game, featuring Ben Ashby, Robbie Neall and Rasheed Woods, opened up the offense. Indian River put everyone in the box, including half the band, just daring Cape to throw the football.

Cape plays at home against Polytech Friday, Sept. 30 and Sussex Central Friday, Oct. 7.
