Paradise Marina and Short's Marine have combined efforts to create the largest flounder fishing tournament this summer on Delmarva. The Ultimate Flounder Pounder Open will take place in Long Neck Aug. 19-21 with more than $100,000 in prizes available for catching the biggest flounders.

"We're having the ultimate flounder tournament that anybody with a small boat can get involved in and win big. Between the incredible prizes we have for the winners and the party we have planned for the last night of the tournament, it's going to be something that people will not forget. That’s for sure,” said Sandy Samsel of Paradise Marina.

Donald Short of Short's Marine has joined to help expand the tournament and make it the biggest of its kind. “We have so many small anglers in the area that we thought it was time to give them the opportunity to win big in our local waters. Fishing is a lot of fun, and this is the kind that anybody can do without having to spend a fortune doing it.”

"First prize is a 22.5-foot Scout center console with a 200 horsepower Yamaha on the back from Short's Marine that's valued at over $80,000. And, there's a cash option for each winner. So whether you place first, second or third, you’ll be getting a really nice boat or a big pile of money. We have designed this to be more fun than you should be allowed to have! It’s going to be big,” said Samsel.

Participation in the tournament is limited to the first 250 boats that register, so early registration is highly recommended. Registration will start at the Paradise Marina in Long Neck at 9 a.m., Monday, Aug. 1, and end Sunday, Aug. 14, at 9 p.m. The fee is $250 per boat including the captain. Up to five additional anglers can be added to each boat for $100 each, and $50 from each boat registered will be donated to the Beebe Tunnell Cancer Center. Rules of the tournament can be found online at shortsmarine.com. Interested anglers must register in person at Paradise Marina with a photo ID and full cash payment to participate.
