UNICO seeks food donations for St. Joseph event March 17-18

March 3, 2018

UNICO Delaware District 1 will sponsor its fifth annual Festa di San Giuseppe and St. Joseph's Table food collection Saturday and Sunday, March 17 and 18, after weekend masses at St. Edmond Church in Rehoboth Beach. Nonperishable food items will be collected, and fresh bread, donated by Nicola Pizza and Old World Breads, will be distributed.

An Italian baked goods sale will be held after the 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday masses. Father William Cocco, pastor, and Father Christopher Hanley will bless the donations, and UNICO members will distribute them to local food shelters on St. Joseph's feast day Monday, March 19.

Honoring the saint who looks after orphans, the poor, the homeless and downtrodden, the event represents a traditional community gathering which dates back to the Middle Ages, when fresh bread and groceries were collected, blessed and distributed to those in need.

Donations of nonperishable food items are needed and may be brought to St. Edmond Church any day during the weekend celebration. Food shelters in need of donations may contact the UNICO Delaware district governor at unicodelawaredistrict1@gmail.com.

Monetary donations will be gratefully accepted to buy additional groceries, and may be mailed to UNICO Rehoboth Area, PO Box 792, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
