UPDATE: Body found floating in Broadkill River identified as Lewes man

October 31, 2017

A body found floating in the Broadkill River Oct. 28 has been identified as Dan M. Cochran IV of Lewes.

A couple boating in the Broadkill River north of Oyster Rocks Road at 12:42 p.m. found Cochran, 62, floating in the water, said Lt. John McDerby of the Division of Fish and Wildlife.

The couple also found an empty kayak and a cooler, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

Police, Department of Natural Resources Fish and Wildlife officers, and fire personnel responded to the area after the body of an adult male was reported.

The body was removed from the scene and turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science in order to confirm the deceased's identity and perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, Fournier said.

Fournier said foul play is not suspected. Fish and Wildlife police continue to investigate.
