UPDATE: Woman injured following crash with chicken truck

August 22, 2017

A Maryland woman was injured Aug. 22 after police say she crashed into the back of a tractor trailer hauling chickens.

The crash happened at 3:10 p.m. on Route 1 near Bakerfield Road when a 2017 Freightliner chicken truck driven by Donald A. Jones, 43, of Dover, exited a private driveway and crossed Route 1 northbound near Bakerfield Road, said Sgt. Richard Bratz of the Delaware State Police.

As the tractor trailer headed to a crossover to travel southbound on Route 1, Bratz said, a 2013 GMC Terrain driven by Stephanie Marvel, 43, of Sudlersville, Md., was driving in the right lane of northbound Route 1 and the SUV struck the tractor trailer. The SUV came to a controlled stop; the tractor trailer remained in the crossover.

Jones was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the collision. He was cited with failure to yield right of way.

Marvel was wearing a seat belt and removed from the scene. She was transported by EMS to the Beebe Healthcare with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Route 1 was impacted for about two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
