September 22, 2016

The Lewes Historical Society now offers passports and stamps for the U.S. Lighthouse Society's Passport Program.

Lighthouse Passports are available at The Lewes Historical Society's Zwaanendael Club Museum Store for $15. The Lewes Historical Society stamp locations for Fourteen Foot Bank Lighthouse and the Lewes Life-Saving Station include the Cannonball House Maritime Museum at 118 Front St., Ryves Holt House at 218 Second St. and the Zwannendael Club Museum Store at 302 Savannah Road, all in Lewes.

Fourteen Foot Bank Lighthouse was built in the 1880s and is located in the Delaware Bay off of Bowers Beach. It is the only bay light in Delaware. The Fresnel Lens from Fourteen Foot Bank Lighthouse can be found at The Lewes Historical Society's Cannonball House Maritime Museum. It is on loan from the U.S. Coast Guard and has been at the Cannonball House since the year 2000.

The Lewes Life-Saving Station is owned by The Lewes Historical Society and is located on the canal front, at the intersection of Pilottown Road and Shipcarpenter Street in historic Lewes. It is best known for its heroic surfmen's actions during the great Blizzard of 1888. The third station commissioned in Delaware, the Lewes Life-Saving Station exhibits the tools and boats used by the surfmen to rescue victims of shipwrecks up and down the coast.
