St. Peter’s Summer Spirituality Series

Using integrated health approaches can lead to a fuller life July 7

July 1, 2016

Mary Anne Latorre of Lewes, whose nursing career led to her advocacy for an integrated approach for a healthy life, will speak Thursday, July 7, at the weekly Summer Spirituality Series at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

The event at 7 p.m. will be held in the church’s parish hall at 221 Mulberry St. A discussion and a social time with ice cream will follow the 60-minute program

A native of New York, Latorre’s career led her through several states, including California where she first became interested in the holistic approach to health.

“As a nurse with over 40 years of experience in holistic nursing, I learned very early the importance of integrating mind, body and spirit, even though modern medicine does not often combine them,” she says. “I also learned that there are many things individuals can do to support their healing and in the process gain a deeper insight into themselves.”

During her presentation, “An Introduction to the Healing of the Soul,” Latorre plans to introduce some integrated health approaches, ranging from enhanced breathing through exercises and guided imagery to Reiki body balancing.

“Using these approaches helps to quiet and refocus the mind, as well as provide a greater sense of spiritual connection. The body holds all our experiences and can help us connect mind and spirit in new and exciting ways,” she says.

A former psychiatric nurse, Latorre taught nursing in California, Pennsylvania and at the University of Delaware, and has lectured and led workshops on suicide prevention, stress management and healing.

On July 14, Mary Van House will lead a presentation and discussion on the labyrinth as a tool for transformation, healing and peace. St. Peter’s has a newly restored outdoor labyrinth that is powered by solar lights.
