Vine and Vessels Christian Writers Conference set Oct. 15

Jingle contest entries due Oct. 10
October 11, 2016

The Eighth Annual Vine and Vessels Christian Writers Conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, at Crossroad Community Church in Georgetown. The conference is designed to build a community support system for writers, to help strengthen their gifts and confidence, and to provide tools that will enhance their writing skills. Conferees may choose two of the six workshops offered. CDs of all workshops will be available.

The conference is hosted by three Sussex County Christian writers groups: Vine & Vessels Christian Writers Fellowship, Delmarva Christian Writers Fellowship, and Kingdom Writers Fellowship. The theme, Fall Into Writing, is a reminder that summer is over, the kids are back in school, and it's time to find a quiet place to write fiction, nonfiction, poetry, memoirs or screenplays.

There will be three morning workshops. Judy Reveal will lead The Relationship Between the Writer and the Editor. Art Doakes will lead The Art of Writing. Candy Abbott and Jean Davis will lead Self-Publishing—You Can Do It! For the afternoon workshops, Amillion Mayfield will lead Poetry in Motion; Gail Atlas will lead Writing for Children - Breaking it Down. Pam Halter will lead Let's Party! Social Media Book Release Parties.

This year, the conference is sponsoring a jingle contest to promote Delmarva's Own Coast NBC TV station, WRDE-TV. Three prizes will be awarded at the conference: $100 first prize, $50 second prize, and $25 third prize. Deadline for entries is Monday, Oct. 10. Contestants must be registered for the conference to be eligible. For more information and guidelines, go to www.vineandvessels.com.

Cost is $40 for adults, $25 for seniors and $20 for seniors. This includes a day full of information, education, fellowship and food (continental breakfast and lunch). "This is the best bargain in town!" says Wilma Caraway, an award-winning author. "I have attended all but one of the previous seven conferences, and the day provides a gold mine of information for wannabe and experienced writers as well as published authors. It provides the opportunity to experience a conference before attending a larger, more expensive one."

Conference co-founders Joyce A. Sessoms and Betty L. Ricks-Jarman have compiled an anthology, "Becoming a Confident Writer: Useful Tools for Your Writer's Toolbox," published by Fruitbearer Publishing LLC of Georgetown. The pages contain a snapshot of the things beginning writers need to know and serves as a mini-conference in a book. Contributing authors are members of the three groups that are hosting the conference. The book is available at the conference for $9.95 or from Amazon.com.

For more information about the conference or to register, call Betty Ricks-Jarman at 302-448-5939 or Joyce Sessoms at 302-383-9904, or go to www.vineandvessels.com.
