Virginia M. Erdesky, devoted Army wife

August 24, 2016

Virginia M. Erdesky, 93, of Lewes, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016.

Virginia was born July 7, 1923, in Punxsutawney, Pa., to Victor and Margaret (Tote) Jesensky. She had eight siblings: Eugene, Margaret, Madeline, Ethel, Evelyn, Ida Mae, Arthur, and Leonard. Her brothers, Arthur and Leonard, are her only living siblings.
She was married March 6, 1944, to Joseph Leo Erdesky, also of Punxsutawney. Joseph passed away Dec. 14, 1997. Her oldest daughter Janice Lissy, also of Lewes, preceded her in death in 2011.
Virginia is survived by two sons, Joseph Leo Erdesky II and James Victor Erdesky and partner Scott Balderston; and four daughters, Judith Erdesky, Jeanne Thompson and husband Grady, Joan Erdesky and partner Roger Lyle, and Joyce Denny and husband Israel Vincent. Seven grandchildren also survive: Gregory Lissy, Diana Macchio, Charlotte Enfield, Juliette Enfield, Adam Erdesky, Bret Denny, Lindsey Denny; and eight great-grandchildren, Nathan, Marin, Olivia, Bridget, Gavin, Corinne, Charles, and James.
As a devoted Army wife to a career Army officer, Virginia and her family lived all over the country and overseas during her marriage. Despite the many moves, she worked to make each transfer and reassignment feel like home to her children and to make family life the stabilizing force in their lives.

Virginia's legacy as an accomplished homemaker, cook and beloved "Mom" is apparent to many beyond her relatives. Her love, strength and caring will be sadly missed by her large, extended family, friends and acquaintances.

According to Virginia's wishes, she chose to donate her body to science. Condolences may be sent to the family at P.O. Box 657, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
