VOCE male quartet to perform at Clear Space Theatre May 26

May 24, 2018

There's a new vocal force in Rehoboth Beach, a male quartet called VOCE (pronounced "vo-chay"). VOCE will perform Love Through the Ages at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 26, at Clear Space Theatre.

Featuring local singers Chris Berg (sopranist), Jacques Wieciech (countertenor), Robert Patlan (tenor) and Colin Armstrong (bass-baritone), accompanied by keyboardist Gary Schwartz, VOCE will perform music from the Baroque era to Broadway and pop tunes.

VOCE is a newly formed quartet of men from the Rehoboth Beach area. At its inception, the group knew it wanted to sing SATB (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) music. This is unusual for most male quartets, but not for this group. VOCE features not only a counter tenor who sings in the female alto range, but also a male sopranist, a rare commodity in any group. Not even the King's Singers group has a male soprano. Berg and Wieciech's uniquely beautiful voices are balanced by the strong tenor and bass voices of Patlan and Armstrong, creating a stunning array of vocal nuances.

This newest iteration of Baroque2Broadway highlights music about all sorts of love. Whether it's about spiritual, romantic or animal love, this talented group will interpret music from the Renaissance and Baroque eras right through Broadway and opera, as well as classical and pop. Audience members will hear the music of Purcell, Vivaldi, Mozart, and Schumann along with songs from "Rent" and "South Pacific." There will even be some songs made popular by Sara Bareilles and Cyndi Lauper.

Tickets are $25. To purchase tickets, go to www.clearspacetheatre.org or call 302-227-2270.
