As a homeowner in southern Milton, we have no nearby access to shopping for food, clothing, or other daily essentials. Shopping for groceries requires a six-mile ride and putting up with heavy traffic congestion. A gallon of milk or loaf of bread requires the same six-mile ride. A convenience store could save miles of travel.
There are tourist amenities galore south of Five Points. While houses continue to be built all around the area, we have no improvement in infrastructure. Surely, a shopping alternative north of Five Points would help relieve congestion in Lewes and Rehoboth along Coastal Highway.
Politicians continue to discourage commercial growth under the premise that it would put local businesses out of business. We would like to see other businesses, small and large, compete for the growing population's business. We would love commercial development to keep pace with the proliferating housing developments.
Another point to consider is the proposed overpass at Cave Neck Road. The overpass would surely prevent many of the accidents that occur at this crossover.
