Westminster Presbyterian Church thanks veterans

November 30, 2016

In a special service led by church member and veteran the Rev. Barbara MacFie Nov. 13, Westminster Presbyterian Church honored and thanked members of the congregation who have served the country in the armed forces. MacFie called attention to the dedication of those men and women.

Each individual was asked to stand and was presented with a star. The stars had been prepared by church member Clif Hilderley III and were accompanied by the following statement: "I am part of our American flag that has flown over the U.S.A. I can no longer fly. The sun and winds caused me to become tattered and torn. Please carry me as a reminder that you are not forgotten."

The service ended with the choir singing a Shaker hymn, "Peace." Following the service, the congregation retired to the fellowship hall where veterans were thanked with a cake in their honor.
