Whayland Co. welcomes Mark Figgs as senior estimator

February 22, 2018

The Whayland Co., with headquarters in Laurel and clients throughout Sussex County and the eastern shore of Maryland, announced the addition of senior estimator Mark Figgs to its southern Delaware management team. Figgs is responsible for cultivating new clients for the longtime Delmarva-based company, as well as managing the firm's growing number of quality subcontractors.

"I'm very happy to be a part of the Whayland Company. I think we have a small but very efficient team here, and I see great things in the months and years to come," said Figgs, a 1973 graduate of Laurel High School. "We have a lot of projects in the pipeline right now, which will carry us through 2018 and into the first quarter of 2019."

Figgs has worked in the construction industry for his entire working life, since obtaining an architectural engineering degree from Delaware Technical and Community College in 1976. He comes to Whayland after a long career on Delmarva, including the last decade as both senior estimator and project manager for nearby companies. His background also includes a 17-year career with W.B. Venables & Sons in Laurel, four years serving as vice president for J.A. Moore & Sons in Rehoboth Beach, and a decade working for Gillis Gilkerson Inc. of Salisbury, Md.

"It's not every day that someone with Mark's experience becomes available, so we were obviously thrilled to add him as the newest member of our team," said Steve Hentschel, president and owner of the Whayland Co. "His addition only strengthens our position in the local marketplace, and it will for a long time to come."

As a lifelong resident of Laurel, Figgs has built an impressive resume of contacts, subcontracting companies and business associates. He began his career with the Whayland Co. in mid-December.

Since opening its doors in 1950, the management and staff of the Whayland Co. has worked continuously to secure its reputation as a high-value, reasonably priced provider of construction and project management services on the Delmarva Peninsula. The company's clients have long recognized the value of partnering with a firm that not only offers comprehensive services, but also tailors those services to the clients' needs.
