Wilbert Eugene Wilson, known as ‘Duck’

July 20, 2016

Wilbert Eugene Wilson (Duck, Butter Butter, Quack Quack, or Shucky Duckys as most of us knew him by) departed from this side of heaven Sunday, July 10, 2016, at 2:56 p.m., at Christiana Hospital in Newark. He was born March 29, 1962, in Lewes, as a precious gift to Dorothy Wilson Gibbs and the late Wilbert Gibbs. He was a Delaware baby who had no problem with letting everyone know he was from Bean Town, also known as Boston, Mass., where he and his family relocated a few years later. It was in Boston where he received his high school education from Boston Trade and Curry College.

Duck was a hard worker all his life. Duck kept many jobs, sometimes two at a time, to provide for his family and loved ones. Along with his jobs, Duck would also be a helping hand to the community and to everyone who needed his assistance. It could be anything from changing brakes, oil changes, tires, to cutting grass, giving rides, painting, yard work, talking trash, and cooking fried chicken for everyone’s functions. If you knew Duck, you know that just about every Saturday you could count on him to have the grill lit and his swamp juice ready for a good day.

Along with helping everyone, Duck never forgot about his family. He was the best son you could ask for by calling his mother every day, even if it was for a short conversation. He would do anything for his children, grandbabies, and godchildren, making sure that they went without wanting, and that they had what everyone else had.  He was a good brother to his siblings. He liked to play the big brother role, so he thought, by giving orders and let’s not forget showing them who was the boss. Duck was a perfect best friend to his close friends. Every weekend you could count on seeing him and his friends together in one of their yards enjoying life.

Duck will be missed, and a lot of his sayings will be remembered such as: “You have to separate the men from the boys,” and “Remember pimping ain’t easy.”

Wilbert Wilson was preceded in death by his father Wilbert Gibbs; grandparents James and Ola Gibbs and Willie Mae Wilson; a son Javar James; and a best friend Larry Neal.

He is survived by his mother Dorothy Wilson Gibbs of Massachusetts; seven siblings, Joseph Azel Wilson (Bronwen), Tanya Gibbs (Mark), Carinda Houston (Christopher), Sonja Gibbs, Sharon Gibbs (Sean) of Massachusetts, and Darryl Gibbs of Delaware; five sons, Leronz Gibbs, Wilbert James, Jesse James, Tydran James and Darius Deshields, all of Delaware; 10 grandchildren, Tazsha, Alliyah, Zymere, Mykai, Ti’mar, Kha’lia, Ki’mar, Jes’son, Sheila, Jermiah; three stepsons, Marty, Tyquan, and Deshon; three goddaughters, Kieshira, Key’myra, and Jakira Reynolds; two special women, Sheila James and Trynisha Deshields; five special friends, Carmen Reynolds, Larry Reynolds, Mike Phillips, Douglas Gibbs and Earl Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
