William (Bill) H. Prettyman, retired constable
William (Bill) H. Prettyman, 86, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017, in his home surrounded by his two loving daughters. Bill was born May 12, 1930, in Millsboro to the late William Walter and Mary Hester Stevenson Prettyman. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Rebecca in 2013, as well as one brother and three sisters, Dale Henry in 1911, Kathryn P. Wilkins in 1995, Mary P. Hill in 2000, and Violet P. Pepper in 2002.
Bill was a graduate of Georgetown High School, Class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1951-55, receiving an honorable discharge thereafter. Bill was previously employed as a carpenter in the late 1950s, a salesman for Bowman Products during the 1960s, and for the state of Delaware, retiring in 1991 as a constable for the Justice of the Peace Courts. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for many years and also a member of Hickory Hill United Methodist Church.
Bill enjoyed gardening, tinkering with his farm tractors and playing cards. He also enjoyed watching western movies and UFC. Above all else, Bill adored spending time with his beloved family, all of whom will miss him greatly.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Mary Beth Burton (Jack) and Suzanne Timmons (Steve); one brother, Ralph Prettyman (Betty), and one brother-in-law, Dale Hudson. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Stephanie Timmons and Will Burton, along with two stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, March 20, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call after 11 a.m. for visitation and viewing. Pastors Robert Hudson and Norman Poultney will officiate.
