William Edward ‘Ted’ Spencer, had passion for flags

William Edward "Ted" Spencer, 76, of Lewes, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018. He was born April 16, 1941, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late William Edward and Kathleen (Egan) Spencer.

Mr. Spencer received his bachelor's degree from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, and his master’s in political science from Niagara University. After further study at the University of Maryland, he returned to St. Francis as the director of admissions and taught there. He then transitioned into the corporate world as a human resources executive. His longstanding interest in American history evolved into a passion for flags, and he delighted in regularly changing his displays at the house.

Mr. Spencer is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sara (Donati) Spencer of Lewes; his daughters: Abigail Charpentier and her husband Jean-Luc of Berwyn, Pa., and Elizabeth DeStefano and her husband David of Charleston, S.C.; and his grandchildren: Spencer and Alexandra Charpentier and Cameron, Kyle, and Reagan DeStefano.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, April 28, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 2nd and Market streets, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Spencer's name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963, or to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 2nd and Market St., P.O. Box 464, Lewes, DE 19958.
