Windows to Our Past postcard show set in Cheswold Sept. 10

August 28, 2016

Delmarva Postcard Club will host Windows to Our Past, its annual postcard show, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Cheswold Volunteer Fire Co.

Postcards show where people lived, things they did and what they loved. “Postcards are windows to our past," says Bill Burton, Delmarva Postcard Club president. "There are thousands of ways collectors value postcards. Many seek out cards that show views of where they lived or grew up, or places that were significant in their lives. But as many collectors look for topical cards that reflect past times - different approaches to jokes and humor, or political events, or the advent of the automobile and the telephone. Cats in costumes, Santa Claus in green or brown, men and women at the beach in bathing costumes - no aspect of society is unnoticed by what appeared on postcards of the time."

Postcard collectors from Delaware, the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake in Maryland and Virginia, and surrounding states will find lots of interesting cards among the hundreds of thousands of cards offered by more than a dozen postcard dealers at show. The address is 371 Main St., Cheswold. Admission is $3. There will be free hourly door prize drawings.
