Winter Speaker Series, Milton Eats, presents: ‘Sweet as a Peach’ Feb. 23

Reservations are strongly suggested
February 22, 2017

The Milton Historical Society is pleased to announce its second presentation of the 2017 Winter Speaker Series: Milton Eats Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. Hail Bennett of Bennett Orchard in Frankford will discuss peaches and the history of the family farm.

Come to the Milton Historical Society to learn about the history of peaches in southern Delaware from a local farm owner. The original Bennett ancestors came ashore following a shipwreck just south of what is now the Indian River Inlet in the mid-1700s.

The Bennetts first extracted salt from seawater and have continued an agricultural legacy in Delaware for over two and a half centuries. The Bennett family farm has been the site of grain and poultry production in previous centuries but the current generations have focused on developing the first successful pick-your-own peach orchard in Delaware.

The Milton Historical Society is located at 210 Union St. in downtown Milton. For more information, call 302-684-1010 or go to www.historicmilton.org. The presentation is complimentary for members and $5 for nonmembers. Memberships are available on site or through our website. Reservations are strongly suggested.
