Winterfly returns to Dewey Feb. 24

Music lovers raise funds for Sussex Academy
February 15, 2017

Local Firefly Music Festival fans will once again raise funds for Sussex Academy's music program through the third annual Winterfly celebration.

The idea for an off-season celebration of the festival began in 2015, when a few friends descended on Dewey Beach for a weekend of getting together to celebrate a diverse love of music.

“It all started with a group of music lovers who wanted to get together and talk about the lineup, but wanted to give back in some way,” said one of the event organizers, Lewes resident Anna Warner Moshier. “That's where the fundraising piece came in, and that's the foundation of this group.”

Since the first gathering in 2015, the group has raised more than $3,000 for Sussex Academy, which has helped the school purchase two timpani drums.

“The crowd has changed, but it's all about making connections, all for the love of music,” Moshier said. “It's like a big group hug, and our country really needs that right now.”

Moshier said she hopes this year's event raises another $1,000 for Sussex Academy.

The gang will reunite Friday, Feb. 24, through Sunday, Feb. 26. A silent auction and party at the Starboard in Dewey Beach – the main fundraising event of the weekend – is open to the public the evening of Friday, Feb. 24.
