Women’s Film Series to screen LPGA founders documentary March 28

March 21, 2017

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society, in collaboration with the League of Women Voters of Sussex County, presents the second annual Women's Film Series. The focus of the monthly series is to inform, inspire and empower audiences by exploring a range of women's issues through the art of film.

A screening of the inspirational documentary, “The Founders,” will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, at the Cinema Art Theater. In 1950, 13 amateur women golfers battled society, finances and sometimes each other to create the Ladies Professional Golf Association. With humor and grit, these underdogs established a sports legacy during a time when athletic women were not accepted in the country club world of American golf.

Through rare archival footage, historical re-enactments and current-day interviews with the surviving founders, a story of champions is told. A post-film discussion will be led by Rebecca Dengler. She is an LPGA Master/PGA professional and coaches all levels of players at Ed Oliver Golf Club in Wilmington.

She has had the privilege of spending time with some of the founding members mentioned in the film, as well as some of the best women coaches, researchers and educators in the game. Some of her recognitions include LPGA Top 50 Teachers, Best Women Teachers in America, and LPGA Section Teacher of the Year, to name a few.

The address is 17701 Dartmouth Drive, No. 2, Lewes. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $9 per screening. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to www.rehobothfilm.com or call 302-645-9095.
