Women of Faith UMC Walk for the Homeless set Sept. 24

August 26, 2016

The United Methodist Women of Faith United Methodist Church of Rehoboth will be hosting their 10th Annual Walk for the Homeless with registration and check-in from 8 to 8:45 a.m. at Delaware Avenue on the Boardwalk Saturday, Sept. 24. The walk will raise funds for three local shelters: Casa San Francisco in Milton, Crisis House in Georgetown and Home of the Brave in Milford.

Each year, organizers strive to increase total funds raised as well as the number of participants and supporters. There is strength in numbers and all are welcome to join the walk, take action and share the sense of community and hope that is created when everyone comes together with the same goal. Homelessness in America touches all walks of life including veterans who served the country. A survey conducted by the Homeless Planning Council of Delaware in 2015 reported that 950 people experienced homelessness in Delaware, including adults and children.

The United Methodist Women of Faith Walk for The Homeless started in 2007. As of 2015, $52,540 has been raised. A full 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the three local homeless shelters.
