Worcester Prep concludes successful spring sports season

June 6, 2018

All Worcester Prep teams won their Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference Championships this spring, and 28 players were selected all-conference. All four Player of the Year awards went to Worcester athletes.

Senior and Rehoboth Beach native Tucker Brown was named the ESIAC boys’ lacrosse Player of the Year and voted MVP by his teammates for the second consecutive year. He is a lacrosse Academic All-American, a member of the 12-Letter Club and the only athlete to ever win ESIAC Player of the Year three times (twice for lacrosse and once for basketball) in the school’s history. He holds the WPS boys’ lacrosse record for most goals scored in a single season, totaling 69 goals. In addition to being named ESIAC basketball Player of the Year his junior year, he was voted MVP three consecutive years by his teammates. He is a dominant student-athlete and captain of all three sports who helped lead WPS to their ESIAC Tournament Titles over a four-year career.  Brown is headed to Furman University this fall, where he will play lacrosse.

Sophomore and Ocean City resident Carly Hoffman was awarded the ESIAC girls’ lacrosse Player of the Year and was voted MVP by her teammates. She is a highly competitive student-athlete in both varsity basketball and lacrosse. She was a solid midfielder whose presence on the lacrosse field was depended on every minute. Her positive attitude, tireless daily efforts and her natural field sense make her what every coach desires in a player and teammate.

For the second consecutive year, sophomore and Ocean City resident Annika Larsen was named the ESIAC Player of the Year for girls’ tennis. She was also voted MVP by her teammates and had a winning record playing No. 1 singles and capturing the girls’ singles championship. She was instrumental in helping the team go 16-0 and win the ESIAC championship title. She is a highly competitive student-athlete who also excels onstage, singing and acting, and garnering many lead roles such as Belle in this year’s “Beauty and the Beast” musical.

Junior and Seaford resident Dominic Anthony was awarded the ESIAC Player of the Year for boys' tennis and was voted MVP by his teammates. Anthony went 13-2 in match play this season and won the boys' singles championship that helped lead WPS tennis to its fourth straight ESIAC tournament title. He is a highly competitive student-athlete who not only excels on the courts, but also in the classroom and on stage as an accomplished pianist, singer and actor. He recently was awarded the prestigious WPS Headmaster’s Academic Award at Convocation for Grades 9-11, and played Beast in this year’s musical “Beauty and the Beast.”
