Worcester Prep senior Reid Carey receives military appointment

Reid Scott Carey of Dagsboro received his official appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy from Lt. Col. USMCR (Ret.) Steve Rakow May 24 at Worcester Preparatory School in Berlin, Md.

Carey is one of approximately 250 students chosen throughout the United States to attend this academy.

An outstanding scholar athlete, Carey has attended Worcester since preschool. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Art Honor Society, varsity golf team and varsity lacrosse team, and he is vice president of his senior class.

He was a member of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Corps-Annapolis Division, where he served in a leadership role as master at arms. Carey attends Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church in Ocean View.
