Worcester Preparatory School gives to local organizations at holidays

January 4, 2017

Students and faculty at Worcester Preparatory School were busy elves during the holiday season. They gave back to the community with choral concerts for the elderly, and multiple food and toy drives for local families in need. Their season of giving kicked off at the annual Upper School Thanksgiving program Nov. 22.

The guest speaker was Diakonia Executive Director Claudia Nagle. Diakonia operates two homeless shelters in West Ocean City, Md., providing emergency and transitional housing, emergency food services and counseling for its guests.

In December, middle and upper school students donated gifts to be delivered to Worcester County G.O.L.D. (Giving Other Lives Dignity), a nonprofit organization that promotes dignity by providing financial aid to families in crisis, vulnerable adults and children in foster care.

In addition, more than 500 students from the entire school collected canned goods, nonperishable food and monetary donations to purchase meat products for the annual food drive sponsored by the Student Government Association.

All donations were transported to seven distribution centers in Maryland and Delaware.
