Parade celebrates hometown softball champs
August 15, 2017

The 2017 Senior League World Series Champion softball team was honored with a parade through Georgetown Sunday, Aug. 13, one week after winning the title of the best senior league softball team in the world. Led by a police and fire engine escort, the parade kicked off at the Georgetown Fire Station, traveled around The Circle and finished at the Georgetown Little League complex where the team was honored with declarations by politicians from around Sussex County.

Sen. Brian Pettyjohn, R-Georgetown, brought congratulations from Delaware Gov. John Carney along with a tribute from him and the 149th General Assembly.

“Girls, you have made Georgetown, Sussex County and Delaware so proud,” said Pettyjohn.

Rep. Ruth Briggs King, R-Georgetown, gave tributes to each player.

“You carried the USA banner, not just Georgetown and not just the county and not just Delaware,” said Briggs King. “You represented us well.”

She presented manager Craig Kormanik with a small American flag in tribute to his team’s accomplishment. Kormanik was quick to praise his players and coaches.

“It was such a joy to coach these girls,” he said. “I was the manager, but we won because I surrounded myself with this kind of talent. When you have that much talent around you, it makes you look good.”

Kormanik said his coaches Tabby Passwaters and Paul Kruger were unbelievable.

Receiving accolades from the governor, the House of Representatives and the Senate were players Logan Dorey, Kylie Kruger, Corrin Farris, Ryleigh Elliott, Jakayla Sample, Taylor Wroten, Sierra Livingston, Malaurie Noble, Victoria Henry, Madison Parker, Kelsey Kormanik, Kaylah Briddell, Jordyn DiFava and Kara Powell along with coaches Tabby Passwaters and Paul Kruger, and manager Craig Kormanik.

The World Series committee will be ordering championship T-shirts which can be ordered for $20 from Kelly Kruger at 302-745-0120 or by email to kellykruger67@hotmail.com.
