Writers guild publishes ‘Rehoboth Reimagined’

June 28, 2017

The Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild celebrated the publication of its first prose and poetry anthology, "Rehoboth Reimagined," June 21 at the Glade Clubhouse in Rehoboth Beach.

Guild founder and Executive Director Maribeth Fischer said, "We are excited to publish what we hope is the first in a long line of anthologies written exclusively by members of the Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild." In all, 18 short stories and 10 poems were chosen for the publication. Authors used photographs archived at the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society and Museum as inspiration for the stories and poems.

"The idea for this book was inspired by Alexander McCall Smith's publication, 'Chance Developments: Stories,'" said Cindy Hall, editor of "Rehoboth Reimagined." "I worked with Nancy Alexander, the director of the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society and Museum, to cull from their archive turn-of-the-20th-century photographs that were unattributed and had no clear provenance. The writers understood that while we currently do not know who the people in the photographs are, they are someone's relatives - therefore, great care was taken to be respectful of the persons depicted."

The book includes poems and stories of shipwrecks and trains, friends and family, intrigue and love. The result is a volume of delightful and varied fictional works that imagine life in Rehoboth at the turn of the 20th century, and the photographs that inspired them.

Browesabout Books in Rehoboth Beach and Biblion Used Books and Rare Finds in Lewes are currently stocking the book. "Rehoboth Reimagined" is also available at www.Amazon.com. For more information, go to www.rehobothbeachwritersguild.com.
