You don't have to be a rocket scientist....

September 8, 2017

The expression, "you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what is going on" perfectly fits the situation in this year’s Dewey Beach political environment.

It is a well-known and documented fact that Dewey Beach has made significant strides in becoming a more family-friendly resort. The fights, loud and rowdy groups, group houses, etc. that were fueled by the alcohol are also less prevalent.

Now let’s look at the candidates...you have Diane Hanson and Dale Cooke who have been at the forefront of making Dewey Beach more family-friendly. Although they had a lot of help in accomplishing this change, they have remained determined and steadfast to make Dewey more hospitable and friendly toward all families. Even unsolicited, all my tenants have made the same observation.

However, this has not been accomplished without a price being paid. That price is the amount of alcohol that has been dispensed in the town. You have three newcomers to the political arena who want “change.” Change from what? Family-friendly back to an alcohol-fueled, no-barriers, rowdy town of yesteryear?

I have read all the three newcomers’ political fliers that I have received, and the only thing they talk about is the “still to be determined” outcome of the town manager’s situation.

Do not let them hold up this bright, shiny object in your face to distract your attention from their real agenda, and that is to take Dewey back to the days of when the bars ran the town and the alcohol flowed freely. Do you have any doubt who is backing these newcomers? In summarizing, do you want to go back to the days of when the bars ran the town? And noise, drunks, and group houses are prevalent or do you want to continue down the path we have been on toward peaceful enjoyment of your summers?

The choice is easy for me. Help me re-elect Diane Hanson and Dale Cooke.
