You must protect neighbors of Burton Pond

April 3, 2017

The following letter was sent to Sussex County Planning & Zoning with a copy submitted to the Cape Gazette for publication.

The proposal for the Burton Pond Section II development does not reflect your guidelines for allowing conditional use of unincorporated territory of Sussex County. If the existing surrounding area is taken into "reasonable consideration" along with the wildlife habitat this area represents, the "appropriate trend" would be to allow single- family homes on this section of land.

To allow 100 townhomes in this area would totally change the "character of the land" and the current communities located beside these 30 acres.

Your mission, according to the Purpose of the Zoning Ordinances for Sussex County, Delaware, states (I quote the applicable portion of the Purpose Statement) is to protect the citizens with the conservation of property values and natural resources and the general and appropriate trend and character of land, building and population development.

As a resident and homeowner of this area, I feel your protection is vital and necessary to help us conserve and maintain the character of our communities that surround this portion of the Burton Pond Section II Development, currently proposed next to our neighborhoods.
