Canvasbacks and snow geese in Rehoboth; feral cat alert in Lewes

January 31, 2018

Hundreds of thousands of snow geese took advantage of last week’s mild winter weather to vacation in Rehoboth Beach.  Within 50 yards of the Boardwalk, their numbers stretched all the way from Rehoboth Avenue northward to just off Deauville Beach where work is underway on the ocean outfall project.

Meanwhile, at Silver Lake, canvasbacks and red heads have taken up winter residence.  They roost on the lake during the night and in the middle of the day and move around the inland bays and elsewhere along the coast in the early mornings and late afternoons.

On Lewes Beach, the city has posted fair warning to residents that a feral cat roundup is in the works.
