Pass them a pickle

There were some pickles passed around during the Oct. 13 Sussex County Council meeting – and they weren't dill or Gherkin.

In an effort to reward employees who go out their way to provide good customer service, the county is taking part in the nationwide "Give 'em a Pickle" customer service and leadership program.

Employees are encouraged to "give a pickle" to fellow employees who provide excellent customer service. That pickle comes in the form of a written note that eventually ends up on the desk of County Administrator Todd Lawson.

Lawson read comments from some of the 120 forms that were submitted during the first two quarters of the year. Of that group, paramedic Bonnie O'Bier and Al Yoor, who works at South Coastal Library, were randomly selected to receive a trophy and a free vacation day.

The program's founder, Bob Farrell, passed away this past August. His unique style of motivational training lives on through Seattle-based Media-Partners.
