Shields Students Make Cards for “Meals on Wheels”

Cape Henlopen School District
December 8, 2017

Elementary students across Cape Henlopen School District are participating in their annual Holiday Shops over the next few weeks leading up to the holidays. The Holiday Shops provide an opportunity for students to purchase gifts for family members and there are a variety of gifts ranging from $.35 to $10.00. The shop is run by PTO parent volunteers and the younger students are accompanied by volunteers who help the students navigate the store. Volunteers also help students select the perfect gifts for parents, grandparents, siblings and even pets.

At Shields Elementary in Lewes, volunteers helped transform the library bookshelves into a holiday shopping extravaganza. Not only were students able to select from a variety of gifts for family, but they were also able to decorate cards for the Lewes based “Meals on Wheels” organization.  Shields Library Manager, Lauren Levin says “Decorating the cards for Meals on Wheels was a great way for the students to celebrate the holidays with members of our community, as well as an opportunity to think of others. The kids had a blast decorating, and I think the recipients will enjoy receiving the cards as well”.

Students at Shields Elementary will be participating in the Holiday Shop and card decorating throughout this week, and the cards will be delivered right before the Holidays.
