Local band to present free
concert at Lewes Canalfront Park

The final concert in a series of three this season in Lewes Canalfront Park will be held Thursday, Sept. 2, when Bare Feet will perform along the canal from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The event, previously scheduled for Aug. 12, was rescheduled due to weather concerns. The event is free and open to the public. Band members are Ernie Hyett on rhythm guitar and vocals, Shelly Amadio on vocals, Robert Marston on lead guitar and vocals, Rick McReynolds on bass and vocals, and Nick Edge on drums and percussion. Lavender Fields to host show

The public is invited to meet more than a dozen local artists, members of the Delaware Shore Artists Group, for an exhibit and reception from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 4, at Lavender Fields Farm west of Lewes. See more than 50 paintings in various media all offered for sale. There will also be plein air painting on-site during the reception. Lavender Fields Farm is located between Lewes and Georgetown off Route 9. Shown is a painting by Alan Keffer, “Cecelia at Lavender.”

Festival Hispano
celebrates a decade

The 10th Annual Festival Hispano was held Aug. 22 at the Little League fields in Millsboro. Festival Hispano is one of the many activities sponsored by the local non-profit arts organization known as El Centro Cultural. Formed in 1995, El Centro Cultural plays an important role in discovering and promoting local Hispanic artists. Dancers from Expresiones de Chile dance the Kari Kari. in international contest

Lewes-area quilter Ludmila Morgan has been selected as a semifinalist for the 2010 American Quilter’s Society international show, set for Oct. 6-9, at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Morgan will display her quilt, “Everlasting Bouquet,” along with almost 200 others in this third annual contest. americanquilter.com

Men’s chorus seeks new members
The Lewes Men’s Chorus is again making plans for its popular Christmas concert, and new members are welcome. Male singes who can carry a tune and love to perform are invited to join in. Rehearsals will begin soon in Lewes. For more information, call Bill Earl at 645-5618.

Enter exhibit early for reduced registration
Delaware’s Holly Branch, American Pen Women invites all Delmarva artists, male and female, 18 and older, to enter the Food, Farm & Foliage Fine Art Exhibit, a juried and judged show to be held Oct. 1-31, at the Delaware Agricultural Museum in Dover. There is a reduced early entry fee for those who enter by Friday, Sept. 10. Artists may submit up to three entries in any combination of fine visual art and fine artisan pieces relating to the theme of the exhibit. Judges will determine best of show and first-place awards in all categories of two- and three-dimensional art. All exhibit artists may sell their other wares in any category during the Reception & Artist Gift Show and Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 9. Artists from 5 to 85-plus will exhibit “ageless art” as part of Cadbury at Lewes’ Quilt & Arts Festival scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10 and 11, on the 35-acre campus on Gills Neck Road, Lewes. This beautiful campus is the ideal setting for an indoor show of quilts, pottery, woodworking, jewelry and art. Presenting the largest display of quilts in the beach area, the Ocean Waves Quilt Guild will be giving demonstrations and offering items for sale. Kids Cottage summer campers will be collecting their art for the fall show along with Cadbury resident artists. A Wine & Sweet Dreams preview reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Sept 10, with tickets $20 per person. The event will feature Kevin Fleming previewing his newest book, “Wild Delmarva,” along with wine, desserts and music plus chance a to win a framed Kevin Fleming print. There is free admission from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept 11, to all displays inside. Art classes for ages 6-9 ongoing at Mispillion
Budding young artists ages 6-9 can register at the Mispillion Art League or call for more information about art classes. Classes are held from 1 to 2:30 p.m., every Wednesday at the art league gallery at 5 N. Walnut St., Milford. Deadline for prospective directors is Sept. 1
Second Street Players is seeking directors for the five shows on its 2011 schedule.
