Dover Downs wins best of gaming awards
Dover Downs Hotel & Casino was recently recognized as a best-of-gaming and best-of-slots winner for the seventh consecutive year in the annual reader and critic polls conducted by Casino Player and Strictly Slots, the nation’s leading consumer gaming magazines. Fundraiser to benefit One Warm Coat
The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce will host One Warm Coat & Heckle the Presidents from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Cottage Café in Bethany Beach. Guest bartenders, chamber President Steve Morgan and the Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation President Diane Comolli will oversee the benefit to help raise money for The Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation and One Warm Coat organization. The restaurant will donate 15 percent of the bar food and beverage sales. There will also be a collection of gently worn coats.
Chamber offers color street maps
The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses to invest in the 2010-11 Quiet Resorts full-color street map, which the chamber information center will distribute over a two-year period. Career fair set for Nov. 12 in Dover
Wilmington University’s Career Services department is holding its annual Dover career fair from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, in the auditorium at the Dover campus. There are currently more than 35 employers registered for the event including TD Bank, Colonial School District, Conectiv Energy, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, eZanga.com, Delaware State Police and the New Castle County government. Business contributions needed for seniors
A campaign to provide gifts to needy senior citizens yielded more than 3,200 gifts in 2008. This year’s campaign is now under way. Nonprofit organizations will identify needy and isolated seniors in the community and provide those names to Home Instead Senior Care. Video-production boot camp available
Media Independence will be working with Renewal of the Spirit Institute to provide video production Boot Camp Training. This training will help to customize participants’ specific needs and help them learn story telling through video and get hands-on experience with video and learn how to use production equipment. Boot Camp Training includes six hours of video-production instruction and a copy of the 60-page field guide. A one-year membership allows participants to air 5 minutes of programs, commercials or documentaries; access the media member equipment-rental program; and receive a one-hour video individual production consultation. Artists to host fundraiser for Dems
Made By Hand will host a benefit for Shore Democrats from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19, at the shop located in York Beach Mall in South Bethany. Twenty percent of all sales that evening will be donated to the Shore Democrats; remaining proceeds benefit the artisans. The Made By Hand International Cooperative promotes worldwide fair-trade practices. Products include handmade clothing, jewelry, accessories, rugs, household items, crafts and musical instruments.
