Cape girls’ lacrosse to host play day March 19

The Cape Henlopen High School girls’ lacrosse team, the defending Delaware state champions, will host a play day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 19, at the school’s field complex in Lewes. The sixth annual Delmar/Mid-Atlantic Lacrosse Play Day will be the most competitive and prestigious girls’ high school lacrosse competition in the United States this spring.

The top teams from the metropolitan areas of Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and the Mid-Atlantic region were invited to come to the Delmarva Peninsula to compete with the two best teams from Delmarva. Each team will play three 40-minute games.

Four of the top 25 teams in the country will be represented, including No. 2 Manchester Valley, No. 16 Marriott’s Ridge, No. 21 Agnes Irwin and No. 24 Moorestown (N.J.). The field will have five 2015 state champions and one state runner-up: Pennsylvania champions, Agnes Irwin (Independent) and Garnet Valley (PIAA); Delaware champions, Cape Henlopen; Maryland champions, Manchester Valley (2A-1A) and Severna Park (4A-3A); and Maryland runner-up Stephan Decatur (3A-2A).
