Trial of Earl Bradley moved to New Castle County

Fri, Jan 28, 2011 - The trial of former Lewes pediatrician Earl Bradley has been moved to New Castle County Superior Court and rescheduled to start Wednesday, June 1.

Bradley faces charges of rape and exploitation of more than 100 children.
Judge William C. Carpenter mailed a letter to state and defense counsel Monday, Jan. 24, explaining his decision.

Carpenter said the Bradley trial has been delayed because Bradley’s defense attorneys – Dean Johnson and Stephanie Tsantes – are defending Derrick Powell, accused of the 2009 shooting of Georgetown police officer Chad Spicer.
Powell’s trial is ongoing in Georgetown.

Carpenter has not yet ruled on a defense motion to suppress video evidence purporting to show Bradley sexually assaulting young children.

A hearing on the defense motion was held Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

Jason Miller, spokesman for the Department of Justice, said the department has no comment on the judge’s decision.
