Judge William Carpenter assigned to Bradley case

Fri, Apr 2, 2010 - Judge William Carpenter has been assigned to preside over the case of Lewes pediatrician and accused pedophile Dr. Earl Bradley.

President Judge James T. Vaughn assigned Carpenter – a Superior Court Judge in New Castle County – the case Monday, March 29.

The move does not necessarily mean the Bradley case is moving out of Sussex County courts. Carpenter said at the moment, the case is still in Sussex.

He said the next step for him is to meet with counsel for Bradley and the Attorney General’s Office to discuss the schedule going forward. Carpenter said he is not sure if the scheduled Monday, May 17 case review will go on; that will depend on what happens during his meeting with counsel.

Dean Johnson and Stephanie Tsantes of the Delaware Public Defender’s Office are representing Bradley.

Prosecutors Paula Ryan and Stacy Cohee, along with Attorney General Joseph “Beau” Biden III, represented the state at Bradley’s March 24 arraignment. Carpenter has been a Superior Court judge in Delaware for 15 years and has written four opinions or orders this year.

Bradley is accused of 471 counts of sexual abuse and exploitation of 103 children at his BayBees Pediatrics office in Lewes.
