Bradley property to go to sheriff’s sale
The former BayBees Pediatrics office of Lewes pediatrician Earl Bradley will be sold at sheriff's sale, Tuesday, May 17.
The office has sat empty for over a year-and-a-half since Bradley's arrest in December 2009.
Bidders must put down 20 percent of the purchase price when the property is sold, as well as a $4,000 deposit, which will be credited towards the 20 percent sale fee. The balance of the sale price must be paid by Monday, June 20. The sale is subject to transfer and realty taxes and confirmation by Sussex County Superior Court.
The complex, which includes the main white office building, the white and black checkerboard painted outbuilding – which Bradley used as his personal office – and two smaller outbuildings. The property was deeded to Bradley by Peter and Mary Beaman.
Sussex County Sheriff Jeff Christopher was not available for comment.
Since Bradley was arrested in December 2009, two attempted burglaries have taken place at the property. State officials seized child-related novelties – such as a ferris wheel, Volkswagon Beetle and Buzz Lightyear toys – surrounding the main office building.
This is the second sale of Bradley property since his arrest. The Department of Justice paid a storage company $1 for some of Bradley’s personal effects, mostly toys, that had been stored at a storage locker in Rehoboth Beach after Bradley failed to pay rental fees. Officials said the items were later destroyed.
Judge gives go ahead for mental exam
New Castle Superior Court Judge William C. Carpenter has approved a state motion for a mental examination to be conducted by Dr. Peter Collins.
The date of the examination has not been released. State officials have not commented on what the exam will entail due to a gag order placed on the prosecution and defense by Carpenter.
State prosecutors have asked for a mental examination to prevent the defense from having Bradley plead “guilty but mentally ill.” Bradley’s defense team will not pursue an insanity defense.
Bradley is awaiting a Wednesday, June 1 trial at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna.
