In a Tick's World, YOU are the Host!

May 17, 2013

Requests for tick treatments are up 60% from last year.  We attribute this to the warm winter and the mild spring temperatures.  Without frost and snow to reduce tick populations from 2011, we expect that our technicians will be busier this season with tick applications then in past years.

The Dog Tick and the Deer Tick are most prevalant in our area.  Ticks rest in "waiting" positions in grass and on trees and shrubbery until they come into contact with a host...  deer, pets, you or your children.    Their goal is to atttach themselves to a host and feed on it's blood to further various life stages such as molting and reproduction.  As a result of a tick bite, a host may be susceptible to several tick born diseases such as Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.
