Cape May-Lewes Ferry suspends operations

Due to the anticipated track and effects of Hurricane Sandy, Cape May - Lewes Ferry officials announced ferry service will suspend operations following the last scheduled departures Saturday, Oct. 27.  The last departures will be the 6 p.m. from Cape May, New Jersey and 7:45 p.m. from Lewes.  Given the current weather forecast,  ferry service expects to be closed from Sunday, Oct. 28 to Tuesday, Oct. 30.

For the safety of the ferry vessels during Hurricane Sandy, ferry marine personnel will transport all vessels upriver. The MV Twin Capes and MV Cape May have departed Cape May this morning.  Early Sunday morning, the MV Delaware, MV New Jersey and MV Cape Henlopen will make the trek north.  All vessels will be moored at Holt Marine Terminal in Gloucester City, N.J.

It remains uncertain as to when the Cape May-Lewes Ferry will resume operations.  Travelers who plan to use the Cape May - Lewes Ferry later this week are urged to call toll free at 800 643-3779, visit the ferry website at cmlf.com or find Cape May-Lewes Ferry on facebook.com.
