Sandy turns out the lights

More than 85,000 lose power, statewide, in hurricane's wrath
October 30, 2012

Strong winds and downed limbs turned out the lights for more than 85,500 Delmarva Power customers by late Monday night, Oct. 29, many in the Rehoboth Beach and Georgetown areas.

More than 8,000 of those who lost power are in Sussex County, concentrated around the two towns.

Successfully restoring power to more than 100 customers since early evening, Delaware Electric Cooperative reported a total of 1,762 outages south of Middletown as of 10:45 p.m. The highest outage densities for the cooperative in Sussex County were also centered in the Georgetown area.

With crews working 16 hour shifts to repair lines and restore power to clients, power companies are encouraging residents to be patient as much of the restoration work cannot be done until winds have subsided.

For more information, or to report an outage contact Delmarva Power at 800-898-8025 or and Delaware Electric Coop. at 855-332-9090 or
