Delmar boy, 2, dies in crash

November 14, 2012

A two-year-old Delmar boy died in a crash Nov. 13 after the car he was riding in left the roadway and ran into a tree.

The boy's aunt, Danielle M. Bobak, 45, of Georgetown was driving a 2007 Subaru Legacy eastbound on Whitesville Road west of Whaley's Road near Delmar at 2:40 p.m. when she ran off the road, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

The car struck a tree and rolled onto its side before coming to a stop, Fournier said.

Lleyton Slate was partially ejected from the car because his car seat was not properly secured, Fournier said. He was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center and flown to Johns Hopkins hospital where he was pronounced dead, Fournier said.

Bobak was taken to PRMC where she is in serious condition. Fournier said a preliminary investigation suggests alcohol was involved.

The roadway was closed for three and a half hours during the investigation.
