Fourth annual Help Portrait needs donations

Frames and photo paper among items needed for event
November 22, 2012

The fourth annual Sussex County Help Portrait, an event sponsored by local photographers to take free portraits of families in need, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8, at Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown. Organizers need donations of 5x7 Staples or Epson photo paper, 5x7 frames, cases of water and poinsettias. To make a donation, volunteer or nominate a family, send an email to gtownHP@gmail.com.

Lewes-area photographer Keith Mosher of KAM Photography, who organizes the local event, said families need to be signed up ahead of time for portraits. People cannot just show up at the event. More than 250 people were photographed at last year's event.

Mosher said the idea behind the global project is simple: Find someone in need; take their portrait; print their portrait, and deliver their portrait.

Volunteers will assist photographers who will take portraits at four mini-studios. Sessions include make-up as well, provided by more volunteers.

Several fundraisers have taken place throughout the year to support Help Portrait, with another one coming up in late November. Chicks for Charity is sponsoring a dinner to benefit the event at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Fish On Restaurant, Five Points, Lewes. The event will feature a choice of two entrees, appetizer and dessert for $25. There will be also be a photo booth, auction and 50-50 drawing.
