November 30, 2012

Dewey Beach police have identified the man whose body was found on Dewey Beach Nov. 27 as Christopher Page, 51, of Hamburg, N.J.

Dewey Beach Police Sgt. Cliff Dempsey said police traced a firearm found on the beach and used information they gathered to locate the victim’s car, a Toyota Camry, parked on Dickinson Avenue. “There’s no indication why it was parked there,” Dempsey said.

Page, whose death has been ruled a suicide, has no known ties to Dewey Beach or the local area, Dempsey said.

“It seems he picked our area because of the aesthetics, “ Dempsey said. “We've notified the next of kin, and that's as far as we've come.” He said police are continuing their investigation to establish a motive and a timeline of what occurred.

A couple taking a morning walk along the beach between Bellevue and New Orleans streets first noticed the body. Police said the victim was found lying on a blanket near a firearm.

Dempsey said the investigation in ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Dewey Beach Police Department at 302-227-1110 or Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333.
